France’s Altice lines up Tin Star

Tim Roth plays a London police officer with a difficult past in Tin Star

French broadcaster Altice Studio has acquired the exclusive local rights to detective drama Tin Star from distributors Sky Vision and Endemol Shine International.

The broadcaster has made a lifetime commitment to the series and will launch its first season this winter.

The 10×60’ show, starring Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs), tells the story of a former London detective who moves with his family to the Rocky Mountains to start a new life as a local police chief in an idyllic rural community. Tin Star is written by Rowan Joffe (28 Weeks Later) and produced by Kudos.

Series- and movies-focused Altice Studio was set up last year by French telecoms and cable operator Altice Group as both a linear and on-demand channel. Altice Group had already forged a relationship with Sky through its acquisition of Riviera for its separate SVoD service SFR Play.

Tin Star has already been renewed by Sky for a second season and has sold internationally to Amazon in the US, Sky in Germany and Italy, and streamer iflix in the Middle East, Africa and South Africa, among others. Sky Vision and Endemol Shine International hold global sales rights.

The deal follows on from Endemol Shine Group’s agreement with fellow French broadcaster RMC Découverte for a local version of its factual thriller format Hunted, to be produced by Endemol Shine France.
