Fox promotes current series exec

20th Century Fox Television (TCFTV) has elevated another programming executive to complement the three creative promotions it made recently.

Carolyn Cassidy

Carolyn Cassidy has been made executive VP of current programming to reflect her work steering the studio’s current series department, which she has done for the past three years.

Since taking charge of current series for the TV arm of film studio 20th Century Fox, Cassidy has overseen a team responsible for managing more than 20 television series for networks including Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS, FX and Netflix, ensuring they become long-term properties in TCFTV’s library.

Under her leadership, the studio has procured hit drama and comedy series such as This Is Us, Empire, 9-1-1 and Modern Family.

Besides creative input, Cassidy ensures series are financially sound and handles relationships with leading creators such as Lee Daniels, Dan Fogelman and Steve Levitan. She is also a proponent of industry initiatives such as greater inclusion, increasing the representation of diverse and female writers and directors.

She joined TCFTV in 2009 as VP of comedy series and was promoted to senior VP in 2013, developing the long-running hits New Girl on Fox and ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat and Last Man Standing. She started her career as a current exec at NBC, working on series including Will & Grace and The Office. She also served in comedy development at ABC Studios.

“Keeping our current shows healthy and thriving is the lifeblood of a studio, and Carolyn’s role is one that combines sharp creative skills, talent relations and sound financial judgement,” said Jonathan Davis, president of creative affairs.

Cassidy’s promotion follows on from those of Mariel Brooke, Chetan Dave and Jenna Dim, who were appointed VPs of current programming, comedy development and drama development.

There has been increased speculation of late as to who from parent company 21st Century Fox would make the move to Disney as the Mouse House’s protracted takeover of the company’s key TV and film assets moves closer. The promotions at TCFTV so near to the deal would suggest they have made the cut.
