Fox pilots sport, rock sitcoms

US network Fox has ordered two comedy pilots, one an adaptation of a sports analyst’s bestselling book and another based on the life of a rock band frontman.

Fantasy Life, adapted from the eponymous book by sports broadcaster ESPN’s senior fantasy sports analyst Matthew Berry, follows a regular guy who bags his dream job of hosting a fantasy football show.

Entourage’s Kevin Connolly is attached to the multi-camera project, which is to be written by Tim McAuliffe (Bad Teacher), who will exec produce alongside Connolly, Troy Zein, Michael Rotenberg, Greg Walter and Jonathan Berry.

Meanwhile, Detour is based on the life of Rivers Cuomo, lead singer and songwriter in US group Weezer, known for hits such as Hash Pipe, Island in the Sun, Buddy Holly and Beverly Hills. The single-camera comedy follows a rock star who, aged 30, decides to quit music and go back to college.
