Fox develops Hitch for TV

Fox in the US is looking to bolster its originals slate by developing a comedy based on 2005 movie Hitch and ordering a pilot for a sci-fi drama from Homeland exec producer Howard Gordon.

Half-hour comedy Hitch is being developed by Overbrook Entertainment, the prodco owned by James Lassiter and Will Smith, who starred in the movie version of the same name.

The office-based show is being produced by Sony’s Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures TV, with the pilot script written by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont.

Frankenstein, exec produced by Gordon and Rand Ravich (Crisis), follows a corrupt FBI agent who is killed and then brought back to life. The pilot is being coproduced by 20th Century Fox Television and Gordon’s Teakwood Lane Productions.

Finally, the US network has also ordered four more scripts for fledgling hospital-based drama Red Band Society. The show is a remake of Spanish drama Polseres Vermelles and is produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin TV and ABC Studios.

It features a group of children living on a hospital cancer ward and was originally created by Alberto Spinoza and produced for TV3 in Spain by local prodco Filmax, which co-owns the format with the broadcaster. The US version was written by Margaret Nagle.
