Food Network preps competition format

Food Network in Canada has greenlit a new culinary competition format where professional chefs devise mouth-watering recipes to be followed by clueless cooks.

Chef in Your Ear is being produced by Toronto-based indie HLP and will begin production in March next year before premiering in the fall.

The show takes some of Canada’s best known chefs who have to provide recipes capable of bettering those of their rivals, but then rely on novices to cook them. The professionals must guide their cooks through every step of the dish through an earpiece while watching on a monitor in another room.

The format was created by Justin Scroggie, chief content officer and founder of The Format People, and has been developed by Ricardo Larrivee, Daniel Gelfant, Henry Less and Lee Herberman.

The Format People will distribute the concept internationally.
