Fonda, Redford reunite on Netflix

Netflix is set to launch an original movie starring Hollywood icons Jane Fonda and Robert Redford.

The duo will star in Our Souls at Night, which launches on the US SVoD service next year. The adaptation of Kent Haruf’s novel will see the pair play a widow and widower who’ve lived next to each other for years.

Bruce Dern and Judy Greer will also star in the production with filming starting today in Colorado. Fonda and Redford last played a couple on a film together in 1979’s The Electric Horseman.

Ritesh Batra (The Lunchbox) is directing from a script by Scott Neustadter and Michael H Weber.

Last year, Netflix renewed Fonda’s single-camera comedy Grace & Frankie for a second season.

In related news, pop star Justin Timberlake’s latest concert film will be made available to Netflix subscribers next month. Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience World Tour film, named Justin Timberlake + The Tennessee Kids, will drop on the streaming service on October 12.

Meanwhile, Netflix has picked up documentary Presenting Princess Shaw from Swiss distributor First Hand Films. Ido Haar’s film was sold to Netflix following the premiere in Toronto last year and the show has now been released worldwide.

The deal was made by Esther van Messel from First Hand Films and Matthew Levin from Netflix.
