Fitzgerald returns to SPT in shake-up

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has re-hired Brendan Fitzgerald for a role overseeing international coproductions as part of a wider rejig at its international arm.

Fitzgerald, who first joined SPT in 2002 and went on to serve as its senior VP of international production, has today been named as senior VP of international coproductions.

After leaving SPT in 2012, Fitzgerald founded Pomodoro Studios to adapt scripted formats for the US Hispanic, Latin American and Turkish markets.

Wayne Garvie, president of international production at the studio, said Fitzgerald’s “vast network and experience” would be used to bring new projects to SPT as the company expects an increase in demand for English-language coproductions.

Other changes to the senior management team at SPT’s international production arm include a new role for Richard Parsons, formerly the division’s senior VP for corporate business and legal affairs. He has been named executive VP of operations for international production. Parsons joined SPT in 2012.

Elsewhere, Cheryl Lynch has been promoted to executive VP of international business affairs, having previously been ‎senior VP of international business affairs.

Meanwhile, Angélica Guerra, senior VP and MD of international production for Latin America and US Hispanic, has joined the division’s senior management team.

Joining her are Sarah Edwards in her role leading SPT’s Future Formats Team and Carrie Ferman, the division’s senior VP of business strategy. Laura McGaughey is set to join the arm as head of finance in March.

Garvie said the additions and changes will complete the senior management team for SPT’s international production arm.

The appointments come after SPT established a new formats unit within its international production arm, to be headed by Sarah Edwards, senior VP of unscripted entertainment.

SPT last year promoted Garvie to president of the international production division. More recently, a shake-up at Sony Pictures Entertainment resulted in the departure of Andy Kaplan, president of Sony Pictures Television Networks.
