Ferguson discusses Tribune talkshow

Outgoing Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson is in advanced talks with US station group Tribune Media to host a daily half-hour talkshow.

According to local reports in the US, the Scotland-born comedian will front the syndicated talker, which is expected to go out at 19:00 (ET/PT) and 18:00 (CT/MT) across Tribune Broadcasting’s 42 stations, beginning next fall.

Ferguson will leave the Late Late Show chair at the end of this year, with British actor James Cordon rumoured to be his surprise replacement on the CBS talker, as changes continue to affect the US late-night talkshow circuit.

Jimmy Fallon took over The Tonight Show on NBC from Jay Leno in February, while David Letterman will be replaced by Stephen Colbert following the veteran’s retirement next year.

Tribune has previously worked with Ferguson on the syndicated gameshow Celebrity Name Game, distributed by Debmar-Mercury, which could handle national sales of Ferguson’s new talker, according to Variety.
