Faisal makes new friends

Since its first appearance at MipTV last April, Aladdin Media's £1.9m CGI children's series Faisal and Friends (26x11') has brought onboard former BBC and Cosgrove Hall veterans in time for Mipcom Jnr.

Theresa Plummer-Andrews, the UK animation veteran who was head of acquisitions and creative development for CBBC for 18 years, has joined the project as executive producer.

Plummer-Andrews has also brought Mike Robinson, former general manager of Cosgrove Hall and an expert in animation production, to the Faisal production team. Robinson's previous clients include Hit Entertainment, CBBC, Universal, Tiger Aspect and Aardman animations.

Finally, Jimmy Hibbert, who wrote the scripts to Bob the Builder and Lavender Castle, will head the script writing team. The series features colourful characters such as Faisal the Frog and his two best friends Saleem the Cricket and Layla the Butterfly.

Aladdin was set up in 2004 by former book publisher Siddiqa Juma. Juma told C21 today that the next stage was to get the finance together to go into production. "The pilot has already attracted interest from a number of Middle Eastern broadcasters," she said.
