Featherstone left her role at Kudos, as well as her co-chairman position at parent company Shine UK, last January after 15 years with the firm following the merger of Endemol, Shine and Core Media.

Katie Carpenter has been named as Sister’s first head of development, joining from Kudos where she was a development executive.

The new firm will produce drama for both UK and international buyers and already has several projects in development.

The initial slate includes The Split, a drama based in the world of divorce lawyers, from The Hour creator Abi Morgan.

While at Kudos, Featherstone executive produced hit drama series including Spooks, Humans and Broadchurch and worked with broadcasters including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, HBO and Netflix.

Other credits included Emmy-winning The Hour, bilingual Anglo-French series The Tunnel and retro crime drama Life on Mars.

Featherstone will continue as executive producer of Broadchurch, the ITV crime series which is set to begin production on a third season shortly, with Sister Pictures joining Kudos and Imaginary Friends as a coproducer. The series was remade in the US as Graceland.

Featherstone said: “This is a great time to be starting again, with such a range of global opportunities in scripted.

“My passion is working with writers and I am relishing the prospect of establishing Sister Pictures as an independent home where I can continue to collaborate with some of the big names in drama as well as having the opportunity to support the next raft of authors in making some brilliant television.”
