Fashion Star goes global

MIPTV: Fashion Star is fast becoming the next global talent format, as LA-based Electus confirms sales of the show into more than 70 territories as well as local productions in four of them.

The company’s newly launched global distribution arm Electus International has concluded sales of the US show in Australia (Network Ten), French Canada (TVA/Mlle), Korea (CJE&M) and Brazil (Globosat), and elsewhere in Latin America (Fox International Channels Latin America).

These are on top of already announced deals with CTV2 in English-speaking Canada and Diva Universal for 20 territories across Asia. The 10-part show is hosted by supermodel Elle Macpherson and debuted last month on NBC.

In the local production space, IAC-backed Electus has also secured format deals with Ten, as well as Germany’s Tresor TV, Shine France and Turkey’s Sera Films.

“With Fashion Star, TV viewers now have the opportunity to not only watch but to actively participate in building the world’s next major fashion brand,” said John Pollak, president of Electus International.

The series sees 14 unknown designers square off for a shot at getting their designs into H&M, Macy’s and Saks Fifth Avenue stores. Designs are made available online the day after each broadcast.

Macpherson hosts and exec produces the series, which comes from Electus (Mob Wives), 5×5 Media (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition), EJD Productions, Magical Elves (Project Runway) and the Global Fashion Association.
