Eyeworks buys Argentine prodco

Having set up or acquired prodcos in Holland, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, the US and the UK, Eyeworks has now expanded into Argentina, Chile and Spain.

The ever-expanding Dutch group – backed by Endemol co-founder Joop van den Ende – has acquired production company Cuatro Cabezas, giving it production assets in the Spanish-speaking markets of Argentina, Chile and Spain.

To be rebranded Eyeworks Cuatro Cabezas, the company has built its Argentine production business with formats such as current affairs show Caiga Quien Caiga (CQC), The Unwritten History, medical reality series E24 and soccer talent format Camino a la Gloria (Road to Glory).

Some of Cuatro Cabezas’s formats have sold internationally, with CQC produced in Spain, Italy, Chile, France and Israel; E24 in Spain, Italy and Chile; and La Liga/The Team in Spain, Italy and Chile.

This has allowed the company to build production arms in Spain and Chile, and Eyeworks today said it would continue to expand Cuatro Cabezas’s production base into other countries.

Cuatro Cabezas was founded in 1993 by joint CEOs Diego Guebel and Mario Pergolini. The latter today said: “Joining together with Eyeworks will expand our creative capacity exponentially. We will put all of our skills and experience together to continue generating more, improved content for the world’s most demanding audiences.”

The acquisitions adds to Eyeworks recent purchase of UK indie At It Productions and LA prodco 3Ball Productions, and adds to earlier deals for New Zealand’s Touchdown TV and producers in Sweden and Belgium.

“Ideas, creativity and quality production are the life blood of the television business and Cuatro Cabezas has proven that it has these qualities in abundance,” explained Eyeworks CEO Reinout Oerlemans.
