Ex-Doctor Who exec joins C4

Channel 4 in the UK has appointed a former Doctor Who exec producer as its new deputy head of drama.

In her new role, Beth Willis will be responsible for originating, developing and commissioning drama programming for the network’s portfolio of channels, including flagship C4 and diginet E4. She will report to Piers Wenger, head of drama.

Willis joins C4 from Kudos Film and Television, where she is an exec producer.  She was previously an exec producer on Doctor Who for the BBC, where she also exec produced one-off drama Eric and Ernie.

Before moving to the BBC, Willis had produced the first two seasons of Ashes to Ashes for Kudos and the BBC.

Her move to C4 reunites her with Wenger, after the pair both worked together on Doctor Who. Wenger left his role as BBC Wales’ head of drama to become a senior commissioning exec at C4’s film arm, Film4, in May 2011. He was appointed head of drama at C4 in May this year.

Willis joins C4 in late September.
