Euro networks uncover Name of the Rose

MIPTV: European satcaster Sky, NRK in Norway and YLE in Finland are among the channels to have picked up a German adaptation of Umberto Eco’s novel The Name of the Rose.

The medieval murder mystery, produced by Tele München Group (TMG), is based on the bestselling book published in 1980 which has since sold more than 50 million copies worldwide.

Sky has taken the show in German-speaking Europe while Orange in France and DR in Denmark have also picked it up here in Cannes.

Originally commissioned by Italian pubcaster Rai, the series is produced by 11 Marzo Film, Palomar and TMG and will premiere next spring.

The story is set in 1327 and centres on two monks who investigate a series of mysterious murders at a secluded monastery in the Alps. It was adapted as a feature film in 1986 starring Sean Connery.
