ER gets Colombian treatment

Colombian broadcaster RCN Televisión, Fox International Channels and TC Television have commissioned a Spanish-language version of ER, almost five years after the US medical drama ended its run on NBC.

The 60-episode order for the Latin American market follows a joint agreement struck with the show’s distributor Warner Bros International Television Production (WBITVP).

The new version will be produced by Columbian prodco Resonant and will premiere this spring.

The commission comes after WBITVP first offered format rights to the long-running medical drama series in 2012.

Originally produced in the US by Constant C Productions and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, in association with Warner Bros Television, ER premiered on NBC in 1994 and ran for 15 seasons in the US and worldwide, with more than 300 episodes produced.

It was also the most Emmy-nominated series in history, with 124 nominations.

The show explores the inner workings of an urban teaching hospital and the critical issues faced by the dedicated physicians and staff of its overburdened emergency room, launching the careers of George Clooney among others.
