Epix reels in Cotton for originals

MGM-backed Epix has appointed a Heyday Television executive to oversee the US cablenet’s original programming efforts.

Nancy Cotton

Nancy Cotton becomes executive VP for original programming and will report to president Michael Wright, who joined the company late last year.

Cotton was most recently president of production in the US for Heyday, which is a joint venture between producer David Heyman and NBCUniversal International Studios.

Before that she was senior VP of creative affairs at Fox 21 TV Studios, where she worked on FX drama The Americans and AMC’s remake of Danish series The Killing.

She will now oversee development and production for all of Epix’s scripted originals, replacing Joselyn Diaz, who left in January, shortly after the arrival of Wright.

Wright said Cotton’s “taste, experience and talent relationships” would help the cablenet as it looks to “rapidly” expand its original series distribution.

Epix’s originals to date include Get Shorty, Berlin Station and forthcoming series The Truth About Harry Quebert.

MGM became the sole owner of the network last year after buying out the stakes held by Viacom and Lionsgate.
