Epix has Unprotected Sets

MGM-backed US cablenet Epix has ordered a documentary series from exec producers including Wanda Sykes that explores the work of comedians in America.

Unprotected Sets is being produced by US studio MGM Television and will focus on some of the best up-and-coming comedians from across the country. Shooting takes place in cities including Portland, San Diego and Washington.

Sykes exec produces alongside Page Hurwitz and Barry Poznick, president of unscripted at MGM Television, which will sell the show globally. Hurwitz is attached as showrunner with the show premiering on Friday October 5 at 23.00 ET/PT.

The series is the latest original for Epix, joining drama Get Shorty and Godfather of Harlem on its slate.

MGM became the sole owner of the network last year after buying out the stakes held by Viacom and Lionsgate.

Epix appointed Nancy Cotton to oversee its original scripted programming efforts earlier this year, following the arrival of president Michael Wright and the subsequent departure of Joselyn Diaz.
