Epix extends Get Shorty

Ray Romano and Chris O’Dowd in Get Shorty

US pay TV network Epix has ordered a second season of Get Shorty, its small-screen version of the 1995 comedy-thriller film.

The show, which debuted earlier this month, is based partly on Elmore Leonard’s 1990 novel of the same name. The second 10×60′ season is slated to air in the summer of 2018.

Get Shorty is produced by MGM Television and written by Davey Holmes, who exec produced the US version of Shameless. The series, sold globally by MGM, focuses on the life of a mobster who attempts to leave his murderous past behind him by moving to Hollywood.

The second season order is the first commission to come from Epix since MGM became the network’s sole owner after the exit of Viacom and Lionsgate.

Get Shorty is one of a number of originals of Epix’s slate, which also features comedy series Graves and drama Berlin Station. The channel had previously focused on movies but moved into original scripted projects in 2015.
