Epix adds CAA exec to team

US cable network Epix has appointed a former head of TV business affairs at Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to oversee business agreements related to its original programming.

Laura Sher has joined Epix as executive VP, head of business affairs for original programming as the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM)-owned network looks to expand its original programming slate.

Sher will report to Epix president Michael Wright and will be responsible for supervising negotiation and execution of all aspects of business agreements related to Epix’s original scripted and unscripted programming.

Sher most recently at worked at Cowen, DeBaets, Abraham & Sheppard (CDAS), where she was a partner in the entertainment practice.

Before joining CDAS, Sher was head of TV business affairs at CAA and has also served as senior VP, business and legal affairs, business development at AMC Networks, where she oversaw business and legal affairs for IFCTV, SundanceTV and BBC America.

Wright said Sher’s “insights into the evolving nature of deal-making in the original programming space are vital to our efforts to build strong creative partnerships and continue to expand the Epix footprint.”

Epix appointed Nancy Cotton as executive VP for original programming in March, reporting to Wright, who joined the company late last year. She replaced Joselyn Diaz, who left in January, shortly after the arrival of Wright.

MGM became the sole owner of the network last year after buying out the stakes held by Viacom and Lionsgate.
