eOne turns on Lights comic for TV

Transatlantic producer and distributor Entertainment One (eOne) has secured the adaptation rights to a comic book created by Canadian singer-songwriter Lights.

Lights’ Skin & Earth comic

Skin & Earth was written and illustrated by Lights. Its first six issues will be adapted for TV, digital and gaming content.

Andrew Lazar, who has worked on films such as Space Cowboys, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and American Sniper, will produce the project for Mad Chance Productions.

Skin & Earth tells a story of self-discovery set in a post-apocalyptic future. Lights, who is managed by eOne, is also behind an award-winning album of the same name, created to accompany the graphic novels.

In related news, eOne has renewed its first-look deal with filmmaker, producer and show creator Datari Turner under his Datari Turner Productions banner.

Building on the initial 2016 partnership that saw success with titles such as WEtv series Growing Up Hip Hop and Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta, Turner will continue to create, develop and produce original programming.

Turner has produced more than 200 hours of original programming for networks such as BET, TvOne, Starz, Showtime and Oxygen.

Growing Up Hip Hop is currently airing its fourth season, while Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta recently finished production on season two.
