Entertainment One (eOne) is pairing up with the former CEO of 12 Years a Slave and Gone Girl producer New Regency to launch a company focused on making movies and TV series.

New Regency’s Oscar winner Gone Girl was produced under Weston

MakeReady is being launched by eOne and Brad Weston and will create original feature films and high-end series for premium cable, OTT and emerging platforms worldwide.

Canadian producer and distributor eOne, which is funding MakeReady’s launch and initial slate, will shop content created by the new studio globally. It has the option to acquire up to 100% of MakeReady in the future, the company said in a statement announcing the deal this afternoon.

Weston was president and CEO of New Regency for five years prior to his departure last year. While there the company received 34 Academy Award nominations with 12 wins including Best Picture Oscars for The Revenant, Birdman, Gone Girl, 12 Years a Slave and The Big Short.

Prior to joining New Regency, Weston was president of production for Paramount Pictures where he was responsible for films including Star Trek, Cloverfield and The Fighter. As part of the new venture pact, Weston has entered into a long-term employment agreement.

Pam Abdy, former president of production at New Regency, will head MakeReady’s team, alongside the company’s soon-to-be-announced TV and digital executives.
