Endemol Shine reveals UK team

The newly formed Endemol Shine Group (ESG) has appointed a chairman and CEO at its UK base, resulting in the departure of yet another Shine Group exec.

ESG, the result of the merger between Endemol, Shine and Core by the production giants’ parent companies Apollo Global Management and 21st Century Fox at the turn of the year, is currently in the process of setting the structures of its regional operations, which span more than 30 markets.

The latest round of restructuring has seen Lucas Church, former Endemol UK CEO, given the role of chairman of Endemol Shine UK, as well as chairman of the group’s commercial board.

Endemol UK chief operating officer Richard Johnston, meanwhile, has been appointed CEO of Endemol Shine UK, leaving no room for Shine Group COO Tim Robinson, who will step down from his role at Shine this spring after six years with the firm.

In the meantime, Robinson will continue to work closely with the new group management team, transitioning his responsibilities within ESG.

Church has held numerous senior management positions at Endemol UK including commercial director, joint MD and chief operating officer, while Johnston has similarly held the title of joint MD at Endemol UK, as well as chief financial officer.

Robinson joins a growing list of execs to leave the ‘mega-indie’ from the Shine Group side, including Kudos chief executive Jane Featherstone, Shine America’s Rich Ross, Shine International CEO Nadine Nohr, Shine Group CEO Alex Mahon and Shine chairman Elisabeth Murdoch.

Meanwhile, Endemol CEO Just Spee and Core Media president Marc Graboff have also stepped down from their respective positions since the merger, which has created the biggest independent production entity in the TV business, was announced.

Church and Johnston will now work together to oversee and support a mammoth roster of companies that fall under the newly combined UK operation, which counts brands such as Big Brother, Broadchurch, Masterchef, The Fall, Peaky Blinders and 8 out of 10 Cats in its arsenal.

UK production companies sitting under the ESG umbrella include Artists Studio, Brown Eyed Boy, DSP, Dragonfly, Fifty Fathoms, House of Tomorrow, Initial, Lovely Day, Kudos, Princess Productions, Remarkable Television, Shine North, Shine Soho, Shine TV, Tiger Aspect, Tigress and Zeppotron.

“Lucas and Richard have both played a central role in driving the expansion of Endemol’s traditional television business as well as innovating into new areas like online digital video,” said Tim Hincks, who as president of ESG, will continue to have oversight of the UK.

“Tim Robinson is owed huge gratitude for his time as chief operating officer at Shine and I’d like to personally thank him for his support and the insight he has contributed over recent months which has helped shape the new group’s structure,” said Sophie Turner Laing CEO, ESG.
