Endemol Shine India changes CEO

The boss of Endemol Shine India has resigned after more than a decade with the firm, sparking a management shake-up at the production giant.

Deepak Dhar has decided to move on from his position of MD and CEO at the end of 2017 to pursue a new venture, details of which have not yet been announced.

Abhishek Rege, chief operating officer of Endemol Shine India, will replace Dhar as CEO and the two will work together until Dhar’s exit.

Dhar joined Endemol India as creative director in 2006 and was promoted to MD in 2008, before being made MD and CEO of Endemol Shine India in 2015.

Under his tenure, the company has produced more than 40 shows a year, totalling 1,500 hours of programming, and has pushed into scripted television, digital content and films in multiple Indian languages.

Dhar has previously worked for MTV, Channel V and Star TV, as head of programming.

Rege, meanwhile, joined Endemol India as head of commercial and legal in 2008 and was promoted to chief operating officer in 2012. He has previously held roles at companies including Viacom 18 Media and Star India.

Endemol Shine India is majority-owned by Endemol Shine Group, with the remaining stake held by CA Media.

The company’s credits in India include Big Boss, the local version of Big Brother, Fear Factor, MasterChef, Deal or No Deal, So You Think You Can Dance and The Voice.

Its scripted output includes Geet, Miley Jab Hum Tum, Sabki Ladli Bebo, Brothers, Traffic, TE3N and Anaamika.

As CEO of international operations at Endemol Shine Group, Nicola Bamford oversees the Indian business  and has now become chair of the Endemol Shine India board.
