Endemol joins Matt Hatter’s party

Endemol Worldwide Distribution has picked up international rights to Matt Hatter Chronicles (26×30′), the new 3D animated children’s comedy from UK independent Platinum Films.

Described by its producers as a boy-skewed “pulse-pounding comedy/adventure,” the soon-to-launch series focuses on the title character, who moves from New York to London’s Notting Hill and discovers a family secret that leads to a series of adventures.

Nickelodeon and ITV1 in the UK, Nickelodeon Australia, Canada’s Teletoon and Irish pubcaster RTE will all air the show. Endemol will seek more broadcasters at Mipcom Jr.

In related news, Channel 4 has commissioned Endemol subsidiary Remarkable Television – the prodco behind the UK version of Big Brother – to produce a second season of new gameshow format The Million Pound Drop – Live.

The show, known internationally as The Money Drop, sees contestants answering eight questions under pressure to win a large cash prize. Big Brother host Davina McCall returns to host. Remarkable’s David Flynn and Nic McNeilis executive produce, with Michelle Woods as series producer.

The first season in the UK averaged an 11.9% share (2.2 million viewers) in its 22.00 slot on C4. The show’s Twitter hashtag also garnered 500,000 tweets in one day, according to Endemol. The format is part of Endemol’s ‘hybrid’ entertainment programming slate for Mipcom that also includes Zoom and Stuck in a Game Show, as reported by C21 yesterday.
