Elba opens Green Door for Garanito

Green Door Pictures, the production outfit from actor Idris Elba, has hired a former FremantleMedia International (FMI) executive as its new head of development.

Ana Garanito will join executive consultant Stewart Till and Luther star Elba as the firm looks to expand in the scripted film and television space.

Garanito was FMI’s director of scripted programming, global content, between 2010 and 2014 before becoming a consultant.

Green Door launched in 2014 and was behind 2015 documentary Mandela, My Dad And Me. The doc followed Elba on a journey of self-exploration in South Africa during the filming of Nelson Mandela biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, in which Elba played the former South African president.

Green Door is also behind forthcoming feature film A Hundred Streets, which stars Elba and Gemma Arterton. On the television side, Elba is to star in new political drama copro Guerrilla (6×60’) for Sky Atlantic and Showtime. The project is penned by 12 Years a Slave’s John Ridley.
