Econet’s Falodun takes SPT sales role

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has appointed a former Econet Media exec to work across its distribution activities in Africa.

Kunle Falodun

Kunle Falodun becomes VP of distribution for SPT in Africa and will report to Mark Young, senior VP of distribution for SPT in the UK, Africa, Ireland and Iberia.

Falodun, who took up the role earlier this month, will help drive SPT’s activities on the continent and is based in the company’s London office.

He joins from Econet Media where he was head of business development, overseeing distribution of the company’s sports content on free-to-air television (Kwese Free TV) across Sub-Sahara Africa.

He took up the role in 2016 and prior to that had moved from Nigeria to the UK in 2004 to work for Optima Sports Management International (OSMI), managing broadcast operations and international broadcast rights.

Young said Falodun’s “extensive knowledge of the African media landscape” and his “unrivalled experience” would help SPT “ramp up our efforts across the continent.”

Falodun added: “I look forward to this new challenge with great anticipation and expectation. Sony is a great company with truly world-class products and I am really positive and excited about what we can do on the continent of Africa over the next few years.”
