Eccho sells Ezel to Africa

Viasat has picked up a hit Turkish drama series for its channels in Africa, while a production company in India has taken on the show’s remake rights.

Ezel, distributed internationally by Eccho Rights, will air on Viasat channels in Ghana and Tanzania while Wizcraft will work on a local version in India.

It brings the number of territories to have taken or remade the drama, which tells the story of a young man returning from military service only to find himself jailed after being set up by his friends and fiancée, to 80.

Fredrik af Malmborg, MD at Stokholm-based Eccho Rights, claimed the deal is the first for a Turkish drama in Africa.
