Dynasty to reign on CW

1980s glamour soap Dynasty is set for reworking by The CW

The planned reboot of 1980s soap Dynasty has been greenlit to series by US broadcast network The CW ahead of its Upfront presentation.

Dynasty originally aired in primetime on ABC from 1981 to 1989. Created by Esther and Richard Shapiro, it focused on two wealthy families feuding over control of their fortune and children.

The CW is now bringing the show back, with the reboot produced by CBS Television Studios and Fake Empire.

Dynasty is joined on the network’s Upfront slate by Valor, a drama about an elite unit of helicopter pilots trained to perform clandestine missions around the world. CBS Television Studios is again behind the show, which has also been greenlit to series.

Also on the slate is Black Lightning, a comedy about the first African-American DC superhero coming out of retirement. Akil Productions, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television are working on the show with DC Comics.

Life Sentence, meanwhile, centres on a woman who ends up surviving after being told she was dying from cancer, and subsequently having to live with the choices she made when she thought her life was ending. Doozer Productions and Warner Bros are producing.

Renewals have also been issued to iZombie for a fourth season and The Originals for a fifth.
