The X-Files and Californication star David Duchovny is turning his bestselling novel into a stop-motion animated special.

Duchovny has recruited award-winning studios Planet Grande Pictures in Malibu and Cuppa Coffee in Toronto to produce an animated version of his New York bestseller Holy Cow.

The two studios have previously worked together on HBO’s long-running series Crashbox.

The novel follows a conflicted cow, a Jewish pig and a debonair turkey as they seek acceptance and enlightenment during a journey across the Middle East.

“Holy Cow was a lot of fun to write. Seeing it now turned into an animated film is a thrill,” said Duchovny, who is due to star in the forthcoming X-Files reboot on Fox.

Billy Frolick (Madagascar) is set to pen the script, with the special slated for delivery in 2016. Cuppa Coffe exec producer Adam Shaheen said the firm will now begin shopping Holy Cow to networks.
