DRG looks to Lat Am with 7A pact

Independent distributor DRG has entered into a partnership with Florida-based distributor 7A Media to boost its sales presence in Latin America.

Cesar Diaz

7A’s owner Cesar Diaz will work with DRG’s senior VP for North and South America Scott Kirkpatrick to promote DRG’s catalogue of scripted and multi-genre non-scripted programming.

London-based DRG’s business in the region has been expanding of late, with sales of British royal family shows Kate Middleton’s Wardrobe Secrets, which was broadcast on ITVBe in the UK, to DirecTV and My Mother Diana (1×60’) to Argentina’s Telefe. It has also sold factual entertainment format Honey I Bought the House (9×60′) to Discovery Latin America.

The partnership comes at a timely moment, according to Kirkpatrick, as DRG prepares to take a 300-hour slate to Mipcom in October, across drama, factual and factual entertainment, and some new formats.

The Modern Times Group-backed distributor’s portfolio includes Nordic noir drama The River (8×60′) and BBC show No More Boys & Girls (2×60′), which explores if the different way we treat young children fosters a life-long sense of inequality between men and women.

“With Cesar’s help we will now be able to work more quickly and spend more time understanding the changing needs of our clients,” added Kirkpatrick.

Diaz said that DRG’s “truly diverse catalogue” means that he was armed with a “variety of content with different creative styles” to take to broadcasters and platforms in Latin America.
