DreamWorks TV joins YouTube

US studio DreamWorks has launched a YouTube channel featuring original live-action and animated programming starring well-known characters from the company’s library, such as Shrek.

DreamWorks TV, which went live this week, is a family channel being operated by DreamWorks Animation and its Awesomeness TV division, which it acquired last year.

The channel will show original content from DreamWorks including reality series Prank My Parents and Record Setter Kids, animation from creators including Jimmy Blue Shorts, Gorillaville and Report Card, and vlog posts from feature film characters including Shrek and Kung Fu Panda.

It will be overseen by AwesomenessTV founder Brian Robbins with a team assembled for DreamWorksTV.

DreamWorks Animation acquired AwesomenessTV, which operates in excess of 55,000 youth-skewing channels on YouTube, for about US$117m in May last year.
