ABC, CBS shows join SPT slate

LA SCREENINGS: The Upfronts this week handed Sony Pictures Television (SPT) two new dramas and a comedy to add to its screenings slate for buyer here in LA.

The dramas are The Good Doctor, an adaptation of a South Korea drama for ABC, and 1970s crime reboot S.W.A.T. for CBS, while the comedy is Alex Inc, for ABC.

Drama

The Good Doctor 3AD, Shore Z Productions, ABC Studios, Sony Pictures Television. Based on a drama from KBS in South Korea, previously in the works with CBS, about a brilliant young surgeon with Aspergers who works at a prestigious hospital. David Shore (House), Hawaii Five-O star Daniel Dae Kim, David Kim and Sebastian Lee are the exec producers. The show will fill the Monday 22.00 slot from this fall.

S.W.A.T. CBS Television Studios, Perfect Storm Entertainment, Sony Pictures Television. Reboot of the 1970s series, which follows an African-American officer torn between loyalty to the streets and his fellow officers. The show fills the Thursday 22.00 slot on CBS from November.

Comedy

Alex Inc Davis Entertainment, Sony Pictures TV, ABC Studios. Scrubs alumni Zach Braff stars as a man who decides to launch his own company in this show from Matt Tarses (Scrubs). Braff will also direct and exec produce alongside Tarses, John Davis, John Fox, Alex Blumberg, Chris Gilberti and Matt Lieber from Gimlet Media. Mid-season on ABC.

SPT will also be screening FBI drama Absentia, produced for AXN by Masha Productions; the 10-part Channel 4/Amazon coproduction Philip K Dick’s Electric Dreams; plus talent format The Gong Show (ABC) and gameshow The Joker’s Wild (TBS).
