Dragonfly captures Minnow’s Samuel

Endemol Shine-owned UK prodco Dragonfly has brought in the head of development at rival Minnow Films as its director of development.

Ben Samuel

Ben Samuel is taking the newly created role, reporting to creative director Richard Bond who moved to Dragonfly from Discovery-owned Raw TV in November.

Samuel will be responsible for driving development strategy, pitching ideas to broadcasters and winning new business.

He joined Minnow in 2015 and worked across its slate of docs, speciality factual, formats, dramas and feature films, with credits including American Justice on BBC2 and Spies on Channel 4.

Prior to that, he was deputy head of development at Ten Alps, managing development projects at its prodcos Blakeway, Brook Lapping and Films of Record. He also had a stint as development producer at Windfall Films.

Bond said: “I have ambitious plans for the company, and by creating this new role for Ben alongside the recent hire of Tom Pullen, I’m assembling a crack team of senior executives to deliver the next generation of truly innovative factual programmes.”

Samuel added: “Dragonfly has long been a company I’ve admired from afar. I’m really looking forward to building on their existing creative successes and expanding the slate with bold, original and inventive ideas.”
