Drag Queens enthroned at TruTV

Turner-owned TruTV in the UK has moved in to revive an original commission about drag performers from local network London Live following an online campaign.

Drag Queens of London (10×60’) was one of the first original commissions from London Live, but the fledgling channel announced last August it was scrapping entertainment commissioning and refocusing on current affairs.

That left the series, produced by The Connected Set, without a UK home until distributor FremantleMedia International secured a deal with TruTV this week. The show’s fan base had launched campaigns online to restore the show to the airwaves.

The show, which follows the off-stage lives of some of London’s best known drag acts, has also been sold to Australian pay TV platform Foxtel for its LifeStyle You channel, and to OutTV for broadcast in Canada, Sweden, the Netherlands and Belgium.

Free-to-air TruTV, which also recently picked up RuPaul’s Drag Race from Passion Distribution, launched in the UK last summer. It will start airing old episodes of Drag Queens of London this week, while The Connected Set is now considering extending the franchise with new episodes.
