LA SCREENINGS: Disney Media Distribution (DMD) will have two new ABC shows on its slate for buyers next week – a comedy and a drama – plus a summer miniseries and two cable dramas.

Comedy

American Housewife ABC Studios, Kapital Entertainment. Single-cam comedy about a woman raising her flawed family in a seemingly perfect town. The show, written by Sarah Dunn (Spin City, Bunheads) and starring Katy Mixon (Mike & Molly), debuts this fall in the Tuesday 20.30 slot on ABC.

Drama

Still Star-Crossed ABC Studios, Shondaland Productions. Picking up on the aftermath of Shakespeare’s doomed lovers Romeo and Juliet. The period show is based on the book by Melinda Taub and will debut in mid-season on ABC.

DMD will also be screening several cable dramas next week, including previously announced Freeform series Dead of Summer. Produced by ABC Signature Studios and Kitsis/Horowitz, the horror series is set in the 1980s and hails from Lost and Once Upon a Time duo Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis plus Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time) and Steve Pearlman (Once Upon a Time).

Another Freeform drama, Beyond, will be on offer, a thriller about a man who wakes up from a 12-year coma from Imperative Entertainment and Automatik. Tim Kring (Heroes), David Eick, Steven Adelson, Zak Kadison, Justin Levy and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones are the executive producers. The show was ordered in November.

ABC miniseries When We Rise is also on the slate. The show follows the rise of the LGBT civil rights movement and comes from Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk, Big Love), Laurence Mark (I, Robot), Bruce Cohen (American Beauty) and Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting).
