Disney’s Sherwood among Mipcom keynotes

Disney’s Ben Sherwood, Participant Media’s David Linde and STX Entertainment’s Sophie Watts have been confirmed as keynote speakers for the Mipcom market in Cannes this October.

Sherwood is co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of the Disney-ABC Television Group. He will use his speech to outline how the US-based company aims to be an early mover in the fast-changing TV industry.

Participant CEO Linde will talk about the US producer’s mission to tackle pressing social issues through its entertainment content.

Meanwhile, STX president Watts will use her keynote to explore how the US studio is approaching the challenges and opportunities of the changing global media landscape.

Last month, Shonda Rhimes, creator of ABC dramas Grey’s Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder, was named as Mipcom 2016 Personality of the Year.

Rhimes will be honoured at a gala dinner at the Carlton Hotel on Wednesday October 19. She will also take part in a Media Mastermind Session at the Palais des Festivals during Mipcom, which runs from October 17 to 20.

C21 reported earlier this week that Mipcom organiser Reed Midem will ramp up security at the market due to recent terrorist attacks in Western Europe.
