Disney, Teletoon capture Counterfeit Cat

Disney XD in EMEA and Teletoon Canada have boarded an animated comedy coproduction between producers from the UK and Canada.

Counterfeit Cat (52×11′) is a copro between UK-based Wildseed Studios and Toronto-based Tricon Kids & Family, which is handling global distribution across all platforms out of its sales arm. The series will also be accompanied by a batch of 11×2′ shorts.

Wildseed is about to begin production at its newly launched Bristol studio, with the company’s founders Miles Bullough and Jesse Cleverly serving as executive producers alongside Tricon’s Andrea Gorfolova, Jon Rutherford and Frank Saperstein.

The cartoon is aimed at six- to 12-year-olds and follows a naive nine-year-old alien destined to save the universe and an anxious but vain housecat who’d prefer to save himself.

The character’s voices will be supplied by English actor Marc Wootton (Nativity) and British-Iranian actor and comedian Kayvan Novak (Four Lions, Fonejacker, Thunderbirds Are Go), respectively.
