Disney, Nine’s Space Chickens take off

Space Chickens in Space should make its debut this year

Producers in Australia, Mexico, the UK and Ireland are moving forward with an animated coproduction for broadcasters Disney EMEA and Nine Network in Australia.

Space Chickens in Space (52×11′) has gone into production and is due to debut in 2018. The series follows a trio of chickens who are mistakenly taken from their homes and enrolled in an elite intergalactic former military academy.

It is a 2D coproduction from Ánima in Mexico, Studio Moshi in Australia and recently formed Dublin-based Gingerbread Animation, which is a joint venture between Studio Moshi and UK-based production and distribution outfit Cake.

Disney EMEA has acquired the first season of the show as well as 11×2′ shorts from Cake, which is overseeing all international distribution outside of Latin America and Australia, where Ánima and Studio Moshi are handling sales.

Studio Moshi has already secured deals for the show in Australia with Nine and Disney Australia.

The series is aimed at six- to 11-year-olds and was created by José C García de Letona and Rita Street. It is designed and directed by Norwegian twins Tommy and Markus Vad Flaaten, with Jordan Gaucher serving as showrunner and Alan Keane and Shane Perez onboard as story editors.
