Disney Asia ups Candland to president

Sixteen-year Disney veteran Paul Candland has been promoted to president of The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) Asia.

Candland, who is currently president of Walt Disney Japan, will now be charged with running Disney’s Asia strategy and coordinating its businesses in a region that covers Japan, Korea, South East Asia and Greater China.

He will report to Andy Bird, chairman of Walt Disney International, while Rob Gilby, MD of TWDC South East Asia will report to Candland.

Meanwhile, Disney has upped Stanley Cheung, MD of TWDC Greater China, to chairman of the same division, reporting to Bird.

Senior VP Luke Kang will take over Cheung’s role, reporting to Cheung and Candland, and will have direct oversight of Disney’s businesses in Greater China, excluding Shanghai Disney Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
