Discovery, Science ready comet doc

Discovery in Canada is preparing to air a one-hour special on Comet Ison as it approaches earth at the beginning of next month.

The comet is likely to be the brightest seen from Earth since the Great Comet of 1680 and factual broadcasters around the world have been prepping content ready for its arrival.

Hunt for a Super Comet will premiere on Discovery Canada on Wednesday December 4 at 19.00 (ET) hosted by Daily Pkanet’s Dr Dan Riskin.

The programme will feature Discovery cameras around the globe tracking the latest movements of the comet as it passes close to earth. There will be expert analysis from leading scientists and astronomers.

The programme is produced and distributed by Exploration Productions – a joint venture between Canada’s Bell Media and Discovery Communications – with Kelly McKeown as the executive producer. It has already sold to Science Channel in the US and other international sales are pending.

Japanese pubcaster NHK has previously announced it is placing 4K cameras on the International Space Station to film the comet as it passes by earth.
