Discovery promotes production veteran

Discovery Communications has promoted one of its veteran executive producers to oversee production at the firm’s US fitness and health channel.

Julie Meisner Eagle becomes VP of production and development at Discovery Fitness & Health, which is set to be relaunched as Discovery Life Channel from early next year.

She will be based at Discovery’s HQ at Silver Spring and will plan the network’s strategy and become one of the channel’s key decision makers for programming. Her remit also includes overseeing new shows throughout the development and production process.

Meisner Eagle joined Discovery-owned TLC in 2009 where she worked on series such as Sister Wives, Say Yes to the Dress, Strange Sex and New York Ink. In 2013, she moved to Discovery Channel and worked on projects including Dude You’re Screwed, Mile Wide Tornado and Shark Week. She was also involved with the doomed Everest Jump Live, which was halted when an avalanche killed 16 Sherpa guides.

She has more than 18 years experience in the TV industry, having also worked on children’s shows for PBS’s Sprout, Playhouse Disney and Discovery Kids, and will report to Jane Latman, general manager of Discovery Life Channel.
