Discovery names Travel Channel GM

Discovery in the US has expanded the role of one of its veteran television executives to include responsibility for the recently acquired Travel Channel.

Jane Latman

Jane Latman has been named as general manager of the network, which became part of Discovery’s portfolio as a result of the firm’s recent purchase of fellow factual giant Scripps Networks Interactive (SNI).

Latman will continue to serve as executive VP of development and research for Investigation Discovery, American Heroes Channel and general manager of Destination America.

The exec, who has been at Discovery since 2003, will also continue to report to group president Henry Schleiff and will remain based in Silver Spring.

Prior to joining Discovery, Latman was a freelance producer, director, and writer for projects such as Nurses for Discovery Health Channel and Understanding Obesity for The Learning Channel.

Discovery recently promoted two programming execs to top roles across lifestyle networks HGTV and Food Network, which were also acquired as part of the purchase of SNI.

In other news, Discovery Channel in the US has renewed its treasure hunting series Cooper’s Treasure for a second season, produced by US prodcos AMPLE and Amblin Television.
