Discovery bags RGTV series

MIPTV: Discovery Communications has picked up a series about people who survive freak accidents from US distributor Rive Gauche Television (RGTV).

The Day I Almost Died (8×60’) is produced by San Francisco-based Indigo Films in association with RGTV and is set to air on Discovery Life Channel in the US this summer. RGTV is launching the series here in Cannes.

Discovery has acquired rights to the show in the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Benelux, CEEMEA and Latin America. In addition, the title has also been licensed to RTL CBS in a regional agreement for Asia.

“The international market has been eagerly awaiting the arrival of The Day I Almost Died,” said RGTV CEO Jon Kramer, adding that the deals were “a great endorsement for the show.”

The news follows RGTV’s sales of more than 1,000 hours of content worldwide ahead of the Cannes market, including adventure-travel series Born to Explore.

Turner Asia has picked up the series, as has RCS/RDS in Romania, which has acquired the programme as part of a volume deal that also includes Who Let the Dogs Out, Animal Science and Sea Rescue.
