Simon Dickson’s departure was confirmed by Shine on Monday with creative director Mark Raphael and chief operating office Lucinda Hicks now assuming co-MD roles.

Dickson will exit next month having joined as creative director in April 2011 before stepping up to MD in November 2012 when Sanjay Singhal left.

Prior to joining Dragonfly, Dickson was deputy head of documentaries at UK broadcaster Channel 4 (C4).

This is the second time Raphael has stepped into Dickson’s shoes at Dragonfly, having initially joined from C4 where he was a commissioning editor for documentaries.

Hicks moved from VP of operations and business development at the Shine Group to replace Steve Nam as chief operating officer of Dragonfly in January 2013.

During his time at Dragonfly, Dickson has overseen the continued production of fixed rig documentaries The Hotel and One Born Every Minute for C4 as well as natural history series The Burrowers: Animals Underground for BBC2.

He was also exec producer on the one-off special The Plane Crash, which aired on C4 in the UK and Discovery internationally.

Dragonfly has also delivered news-led documentaries such as The Horsemeat Banquet (BBC3), Terror at Sea: The Sinking of the Concordia (C4), and Hurricane Sandy: Anatomy of a Superstorm (BBC2) on his watch.

Dickson said: “In all, I’ve enjoyed a decade-long relationship with Dragonfly as commissioner, creative leader, and, latterly, MD. It’s been a pleasure and a privilege throughout, and particularly to have led the company through the maze of creative and commercial challenges during my time as MD.”
