DHX gets Savvy with tweens

Canadian children’s firm DHX Television has commissioned a pop culture series designed to offer tweens a new take on the world around them.

DHX-owned Family Channel in Canada will air Savvy (20×30′), which begins shooting in Toronto in early October and will debut in spring 2016.

The series, which comes from B-Minors, the programming division of Banger Films, will be distributed by DHX Media.

The magazine-style show features three female hosts and combines elements of music, fashion and DIY alongside how-to videos.

“Savvy doesn’t tell girls how to think or act or dress. It’s not about ‘what’s hot, what’s not,'” says producer Adrienne Reid.

“We want Savvy to be a sanctuary where a new generation of lead-don’t-follow indie girls will be inspired and feel like they’ve found their tribe. That, plus super-cute cat videos, is Savvy in a nutshell,” Reid said.

DHX Television is comprised of Family Channel, Family CHRGD, Family Jr and Télémagino and airs series such as The Next Step, Degrassi: Next Class and Teletubbies.
