Denmark’s Von Trier makes TV return

Controversial Danish director Lars von Trier is returning to TV for the first time in 20 years with an English language drama series, produced with Danish pubcaster DR.

The filmmaker behind two-part erotic movie Nymphomaniac and 2009 feature Antichrist will write and direct the drama titled The House That Jack Built.

His producer Louise Vesth revealed the news during a press conference for Nymphomaniac Volume 2 – Director’s Cut at the Venice Film Festival.

Vesth will produce for von Trier’s Danish prodco Zentropa along with exec producer and Zentropa partner Peter Aalbaek Jensen. DR’s Piv Bernth will also exec produce.

Von Trier will start working on the script for the TV series this fall and shooting is expected in 2016. TrustNordisk will handle international sales.

The director last ventured into TV in 1994 with horror-soap opera The Kingdom, which inspired ABC’s US remake Kingdom Hospital in 2004.
