Dean Koontz book picked up by Tomorrow

Suspense novel Devoted, published this year by bestselling US author Dean Koontz, is heading to the small screen in a deal with LA-based Tomorrow Studios (Snowpiercer).

The company, a joint venture between the UK’s ITV Studios and US showrunner Marty Adelstein, will adapt the novel into a TV series to be exec produced by Adelstein, Koontz and Tomorrow president Becky Clements.

Devoted was published by Amazon in March this year and follows a mute 11-year-old boy who communicates telepathically with his dog in order to save his family from a supernatural evil.

The book will become the latest Koontz novel to be adapted for television following The Face of Fear on CBS in 1990 and Mr Murder for ABC in 1998. An adaptation of 1994’s Dark Rivers of the Heart is also in the works with Gloria Reuben (Mr Robot), Tree Line Film and Hyde Park Television.

The Devoted deal comes after Tomorrow recently expanded its production slate by signing a deal with French producer Éric Rochant (The Bureau) for a new TV series. It also recently moved into adult animation with Steve Dildarian and Nick Weidenfeld.

In a recent interview with C21FM, Adelstein said Tomorrow was working on a manga adaptation called Gil’s All Fright Diner with Barry Sonnenfeld and Dave Hemingson and adapting Japanese medical show Black Jack for the US.

“Dean is an incredible force and his acumen for writing suspenseful thrillers with heartfelt characters and story makes him uber successful globally,” said Adelstein, who launched Tomorrow with ITV in 2014.
