Danish drama gets ABC greenlight

TV2’s Splitting Up Together

UPFRONTS: The ABC network has ordered two new scripted series for the 2017/18 season, including one based on a hit Danish comedy from TV2.

Half-hour series Splitting Up Together comes from A Very Good Production, Piece of Pie Productions and Warner Bros Television. This remake of a TV2 comedy is about a failing marriage reinvigorated by divorce.

Emily Kapnek (Suburgatory, Selfie) is adapting the Danish script and exec producing alongside Elle DeGeneres. The original was written by Mette Heeno and produced by Happy End Film.

The other new drama given the series greenlight by ABC is Deception, from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television. The show, from writer/exec producer Chris Fedak (Chuck), follows a famous magician who starts working for the FBI after his career is ended by a scandal.

ABC has also renewed several more shows, including comedies Speechless and Fresh off the Boat plus unscripted stalwarts Shark Tank, The Bachelor and Dancing With the Stars for the 2017/18 season. The pick-ups add to a long list of renewals already announced by the network.
