CW Seed spins Veronica Mars

CW Seed, the fledgling digital studio and website from US network The CW, has revealed its summer slate including a spin-off from drama series Veronica Mars.

Play It Again, Dick is being co-written by Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas and follows Dick Casablancas, who starred in the original show, as he attempts to get his own series.

New mini webisodes of quizshow Whose Line Is It Anyway, which airs in full on The CW, have also been ordered along with LA Rangers, co-written and coproduced by Wilson Bethel (Hart of Dixie). The latter follows two disillusioned filmmakers working as park rangers in Los Angeles.

An as-yet untitled comedy has also been slated, to be produced by Gossip Girl-creators Alloy Entertainment. The show explores the lives of two best friends, one of whom starts dating the other’s mother.

The slate’s release comes after broadcast network The CW revealed last week it would be airing the first series developed by its digital studio sibling. Backpackers (10×30′) will premiere this summer, with the first four episodes based on material previously released as digital episodes on CW Seed.
