Cuppa Coffee brews pet-celeb toon

Canada’s Cuppa Coffee Studios is developing an animated series based on a licensing brand featuring animals masquerading as celebrities.

Pets Rock brands apparel and greetings cards

The Toronto-based firm has signed a development deal with UK-based Polybank Designs to turn the latter’s Pets Rock brand into a half-hour animated comedy series.

Mark Polybank and Kate Polybank claim the brand, which appears on apparel and greetings cards in the UK, is worth US$60m.

“The world of Pets Rock meshes celebrity with our furry friends and imagines what those pugnacious pets in cosplay guise have to say about the crazy times we live in,” the producers said.

Details are set to be revealed ahead of Mipcom later this year. Cuppa Coffee has previously produced celebrity-satirising animated series such as Starveillance, Celebrity Death Match and Life’s a Zoo.
